Reviews For This Wine

($250; 15.5%; from the exact same blend as the "regular" Kayli Morgan but aged nearly a year longer; this was bottled in December of 2008) Good saturated red-ruby. Superripe, decadent aromas of currant, graphite, mocha and marzipan; there's something here that reminded me of a great old Rioja. Lush and sweet but with superb energy keeping the wine magically fresh. Bigger than the Precious and longer and brighter on the finish. This has a three-dimensional texture. Owner Woodbridge told me this late-bottled wine is his attempt to see what his Kayli Morgan cabernet will taste like after 20 years in the bottle.

About This Producer

In 1998 Jayson Woodbridge released his first vintage, one Cabernet, made from his own 10-acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard. The goal was to create a "Right Bank" style Cabernet from those clay soils. With the second vintage, he earned scores in the mid-90s and sold the wine for double the previous vintage. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard, Woodbridge produces a Howell Mountain Cabernet from The Ark Vineyard and a single-vineyard Shiraz from his Ancient Way Vineyard in Barossa Valley.
