($45) Medium red. Smoky, floral-accented raspberry and redcurrant aromas, plus a bright mineral hint. Fresh and focused, with bright red berry flavors, fine-grained tannins and a refreshing suggestion of orange peel on the finish. Nicely balanced, elegant pinot, with impressive purity and finishing persistence. (JR)

About This Producer

Ken and Akiko Freeman's search for the perfect Sonoma Coast vineyard site lead them to form a winery based on partnerships with top notch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir growers in both the Russian River and Sonoma Coast appellations. Winemaker Ed Kurtzman, who previously developed the formidable Pinot program at Testarossa, lends his expertise in the production of vineyard-designate and appellation wines. From their initial vintage in 2002, the Freemans have increased production from 500 to over 5,000 cases of small lot bottlings.
