International Wine Cellar | 94

Good full ruby-red. Musky aromas of black raspberry, mocha, smoke and minerals. Suave and fine-grained, with an enticing creaminess of texture. The captivating flavors of raspberry, menthol and flowers carry into the very long, broad finish, which features wonderfully noble tannins.

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill, from that gently sloping vineyard just north of St. Helena, has a dense purple color like the other wines, and a beautiful nose of crushed rocks and pure, floral-infused black currant fruit interwoven with espresso and pain grille. The wine is dense, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful tannin, silky, expansive texture, and a long finish. Unfortunately, there are less than 300 cases of this wine, which requires 2-3 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 20-25 years.

An open-throttle Cabernet. Delightfully supple, creamy and layered, this is intense while caressing, with gorgeous pure currant, black cherry, blackberry and plummy Cabernet fruit that's powerful and potent, yet graceful and refined.

About This Producer

Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in 1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. Winemaking duties were originally handled by Helen Turley, then Mark Aubert in 1999. Production of the Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard is very small, with only about 350 cases produced each vintage. As with most of the world's truly great wines, Colgin's philosophy revolves around low yields and meticulous care of the fruit in the vineyard, winery and transportation between the two.
