International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 138

($185) Good deep, saturated ruby. Aromas of currant, bitter chocolate, violet and tobacco. Juicy and penetrating, with firm-edged, slightly green acidity that has not yet harmonized with the wine's fruit. This very young wine will need extended time in bottle to come together. Claude Blankiet noted that the substantial spring rain in 2005 caused the vines "to go crazy," producing a big crop that required a lot of work to control the ultimate yields. A good bit of 2005 wine was ultimately declassified (the equivalent of about 600 cases), he told me, and when Michel Rolland helped out with the final blends, he added some cabernet sauvignon to the Rive Droite cuvee "to give it more middle." The 3.68 pH of this wine is unusually low.

Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker Issue: 174

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,200 cases) reveals a chocolatey espresso roast note with mocha, blackberry and cassis, high tannins, but full body, superb concentration, purity, and an almost Graves-like scorched earth character. This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years.

Rich, dark and very intense with great balance and structure. Long finish. Near the top of the Napa cabernet class. Nearly perfect and still improving. Has many years to go.

Very nice -- big, bold cab that is well integrated with tannins, fruit and oak. Coat staining on your teeth!

Really nice nose, complex and pleasurable. Nice fruit on palate, a bit thin overall but real nice backbone. An elegant wine.

Wasn't going to open another for several more years but "noblesse oblige". Unchanged, still closed and tannic, but I believe will round out with a few more least!
