($49; 65% new oak) Deep red. Perfumed nose combines spices, rose petal, mocha, underbrush, minerals and earth. Fat, lush and sweet; creamy but with shape. Dominant flavors of spices, white pepper and forest floor. Attractive, spicy wine, and better than the 2003 version.

The 2004 Bucher Vineyard, which is a hillside vineyard on Westside Road planted with Dijon clones 115, 667, and the older Pommard clone, seems to follow the same formula as the Westside Road Neighbors - lots of acid, sweet and sour cherries intermixed with smoke, underbrush, and pomegranate.

Firm, intense and vibrant, with a beam of black cherry and raspberry fruit that's focused and persistent, ending with a minerally edge.
