(51% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4 % Cabernet Franc). A heady wine that launches itself straight for your soul. A pleasing noseful of black cherry, blackberry, clove/cinnamon bark dust, and an ethereal spice cake and coffee bean quality. There is a structured boldness to the mouth that comes from the mountain fruit and cool climate vineyards. A certain gamey quality enhances the layers of cassis, blackberry and boysenberry. A real California classic with lithe and muscular tannins that add an incredible dimension to the wine. Finishes plush and concentrated with poise and accuracy. This is going to be one of the "wines-to-watch" for fans of what great California wine used to be.
