International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 132

Bright, saturated ruby. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, dark plum, black cherry, violet, minerals, spices, soy sauce and brown spices. Lush, broad and rich, with a superripe blackberry flavor that remains this side of jammy. Thanks to its finesse of texture and juiciness, this ultimately comes across as less sweet and more classic than the superb 2002. Finishes with wonderfully suave, broad, building tannins that coat the teeth. The wine's cabernet franc component contributes lift and spice on the aftertaste. This needs, and should reward, six to eight years of cellar time.

The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (about 400 cases or so) boasts that scorched earth, roasted coffee, chocolatey black currant, and cedary nose, full-bodied flavors, sweet but high tannins, and a textured mouthfeel with tremendous complexity. It has an enormous upstream potential of 20-30 years. It is relatively accessible for a Sloan wine, but I would still give it 2-3 years of bottle age.

Dark, rich and concentrated, with great structure, depth and complexity, offering tiers of spicy currant, blackberry, sage, herb and pleasant mineral notes. The tannins are firm as well, giving this an excellent framework. 500 cases made.

Nice but a little too pricey for the quality. Chocolate, tobacco, and hazelnuts. Heavy tannins still needs to mature.
