($38) Good bright deep ruby. Slightly reduced aromas of raw crushed berries and mocha, with a faintly porty quality. Then creamy-sweet and thick but penetrating, with sound acids giving shape and lift to the blackberry and boysenberry flavors. Very primary zinfandel that should merit a higher score with a bit of patience. Today this seems almost restrained in the context of California zinfandel. Sussman recommends drinking this within four or five years.

The 2004 Zinfandel Von Weidlich's deep ruby color is followed by a big, briery, peppery, herbal-scented bouquet, and lovely, full-bodied, sweet strawberry and black cherry, spice, and incense-like flavors. Consume it over the next 4-5 years.

Complex aromas of ripe wild berry, raspberry, spice and flowers. The flavors are firm, rich and lush, and the acidity keeps them lively and vibrant. Excellent structure and length. 220 cases made.
