($120) Bright ruby-red. Expressive nose offers black cherry, black raspberry, coffee, smoked meat and minerals. Essentially silky in texture but juicy and youthfully tight, with terrific purity of dark fruit and mineral flavor. This impressively intense wine seems more primary today than the reserve claret. Finishes very long and minerally, with building, fine-grained tannins. These top 2004 cuvees boast terrific acidity for the vintage and are likely to evolve slowly.

Chocolate on the nose, chocolate on the palate, chocolate everywhere, all wrapped up in those trademark Pride Spring Mountain masculine tannins. This is a powerful wine that requires a little wrestling with, but well worth the tussle. Dense, thick, chewy and full of flavor. In addition to the chocolate goodness, there's lots of dark fruit flavors of plums and berries and a sprinkling of baking spices and dried herbs. There you go, liquid goodness!

Distinctly chocolate aroma on the nose which softened a bit as the wine opened up. Some dark fruit and oak; still fairly tannic. Decant for a few hours to enjoy now, or give it some time in the bottle.

A fair amount of oak and hints of mint and anise on the nose. Creamy texture that slides easily down the throat. Well balanced with good acid levels and a very long finish. This is still youthful and the tannins scream for a nice bit of red meat! Overall, very enjoyable with plenty of upside potential.
