(16.1% alcohol) Bright, deep ruby. Deep, roasted black fruit nose shows a liqueur-like quality. Then suave, deep and almost surprisingly sappy, with lovely energy and lift to the gravelly dark fruit, spice and mineral flavors. This boasts a terrific core of fruit and a piquant flavor of fruity peppercorn. Firm acids give clarity to this very deep wine. From a vineyard farmed by David Abreu.

The 2004 Cemetery (named after a vineyard next to St. Helena's graveyard) is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Terrific fruit concentration and a gorgeously explosive nose of white flowers, creme de cassis, graphite, and spicy, toasty oak are followed by a wine of enormous concentration, full-bodied unctuosity, and a spectacularly long, 45-second, "drop dead" finish.
