($35; 81% cabernet sauvignon, 13% cabernet franc and 6% merlot) Good deep ruby-red. Sexy aromas of plum, chocolatey oak and spicecake. Suave, fat and sweet, with a lovely layered texture to the plum and milk chocolate flavors. Very harmonious use of oak here.

The 2004 Red Wine is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Merlot from declassified fruit and may be considered a second label. Purple-colored, it gives up a toasty nose of vanilla, violets, cassis, black currants, and blackberry. This leads to a rich, layered, black fruit-flavored, and smoothly textured wine that offers considerable elegance.

Just gorgeous after 7 hrs of air...deep blue fruit profile...nice chalky tannins and a long smooth finish...keeps getting better.

Lush and smooth. Muted fruit and mellowed into a nice mouthful.

About This Producer

No Washington winery commands more attention from wine collectors than Quilceda Creek, with repeated 100-point scores and subsequent appreciating bottle value. Since 1978, the Alex Golitzin and his son Paul have been lauded for their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, which is elevated by the Bordelais practice of declassification of up to one third of production into a second label each year. The fruit for their 4,000-case production is sourced from the finest vineyards on the far side of the Cascade Mountains, and the Golitzins are meticulous in their oversight of the viticultural practices. Driven to produce the greatest wine possible, Alex and Paul "know what they want in a wine and what to do to get it."
