There are just under 1,000 cases of this 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon from an estate with which I am unfamiliar. Based on this tasting, Parallel Napa Valley's Cabernet Sauvignon deserves broader recognition. A delicious, seductive, open-knit, soft, round, lush offering, it is a classic example of this vintage. The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple, and the wine shows lots of red and black fruits presented in a round, fleshy, succulent style with fine, well-integrated tannins. Pure and impeccably well-balanced with the wood pushed to the background, it should drink well for 6-8 years.

Firm, ripe and intense, with vivid currant and wild berry fruit that's also a bit hot. Yet this is rich and fleshy and is well-focused and persistent on the finish, with ripe tannins.

Initial aromas of dark chocolate, mint and cherry in the nose with some sweet currant on the front of the palate. The dusty chocolate, black cherry, plum and currant flavors are polished and expansive for such a young wine. Nice acidity on the finish.

About This Producer

In its first few years, Parallel Napa Valley has grown to be one of the most exciting new Napa mountainside wineries in California. The wines are the result of a collaboration of eight close friends and two of the top winemaking professionals in the industry today: Philippe Melka and highly acclaimed Vineyard Manager Jim Barbour.

All successful entrepreneurs in their own right, the Parallel partners love a challenge and relish the chance to participate hands-on. As such, they have been fully involved in every aspect of creating Parallel, from the planting of the first vine to sampling the first sip of each new vintage. It's this energy and synergy that makes Parallel wines so special.
