More Vintages and Sizes of Hubert Lignier - Clos de la Roche:
Author: Allen Meadows
Issue: Issue 21
(from a .79 ha parcel of 35 to 45 year old vines located in Monts Luisants) A superbly complex nose combining a stylish mix of red berry liqueur, blue berry and black raspberry fruit aromas nuanced with game, tea, smoke and hints of earth and leather. The big and well-muscled yet refined flavors are structured, firm and explosive and this finishes with a flourish as it's at once classy and stunningly pure. Another terrific Lignier Clos de la Roche in a long string of them; just be aware that this will require moderate patience.

Issue: Issue 131
($240) Good saturated deep red. Highly aromatic nose combines red fruits, spices and minerals; perfumed and high-toned. Rich, lush, broad and sweet but with harmonious balancing acids keeping it firm and youthful. Boasts a silky texture and the best volume and persistence of these '04s. Tannins are sweet. A terrific showing today, but give this five years of aging.
