(from 8 ouvrées, or about .32 ha, of 45 year old vines) An impressively deft touch of complements the white flower, green apple and spicy pear aromas that display undertones of anise and clove that continue on to the mineral suffused flavors that possess flat out amazing intensity and culminate in a chiseled and explosive finish. This is like a bomb in the mouth and almost painfully intense. Interestingly, I did not find the separation though that I usually do between this wine and the Genevrières, which suggests that Coche is beginning to find his mark with the latter.

(Coche is in the process of replanting his parcel in the top section of Perrieres) An essence of minerals on the nose. Wonderfully ripe, silky and full in the mouth, with sweet flavors of lemon and liquid stone. Powerful, fresh, minerally wine with impressive body for the vintage. This has grand cru palate presence and length. The remaining parcels are 30, 33 and 45 years old.

About This Producer

According to Robert Parker, "Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth." Parker' impassioned reverence to this estate in the late '80s brought its appeal worldwide, but neither triple digit scores nor critical acclaim need speak for the insanely low yields and meticulous winemaking that give Domaine Coche-Dury its mystique.

Approximately half of the domaine's nine hectares of vineyards are situated around its hometown of Meursault, and although Coche is best known for Chardonnay, the domaine also bottles six exquisite Pinot Noirs. Famous for the extensive oak treatment and a staggering 22 months in barrel, Coche Dury's finest wines, such as Corton Charlemagne and Meursault Perrieres, have power, concentration, purity, and depth balanced by vibrant acidity for extreme longevity.
