The lush aromas show a little graphite, dusty olive, clove and meat. The palate is delicate, graceful and cleanly focused emphasizing black cherry, plum and currants. The tannins show good grip and the wine needs time to fully integrate all components.

A pleasant wine. Good flavor, not as fruit forward as some RRV pinots. A nice bottle of wine but no real wow factor.

About This Producer

Battle Creek is one of a small group of vineyards retained following the sale of the major brand Columbia Winery to an international corporation in 2001. It is currently part of the Corus Estates & Vineyards brand. Production is supervised by winemaker Aron Hess, who worked with Lynn Penner-Ash at Rex Hill before becoming head of production at 12th & Maple Wine Company, a custom crush facility in Dundee, Oregon. Battle Creek Pinot Noir, produced from a 135-acre vineyard of the same name, is made at the 12th & Maple location. The Battle Creek Vineyard vines are incredibly low yielding, averaging less than 1 ton per acre, and production is in the 150-200 case range.
