($125) Good saturated ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of currant, black cherry, espresso, milk chocolate and flowers; a real essence of Napa Valley cabernet. Enters the palate like silk, then builds slowly toward the back, offering a lovely light touch and plenty of inner-mouth aromatic character. Finishes with substantial but very fine tannins that reach the incisors, and lingering perfume.

The rich and intense 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has a saturated ruby/purple color and is sweet and dark, with a complex nose of creme de cassis, blackberry, subtle oak, and smoke. It is medium to full-bodied and seems richer, fuller, and more intense than the 2004, but again reminds me of a St.-Julien made in Napa.

This is getting very interesting as the way is maturing...this full body, dark, dense and full flavor CS. an underrated vintage but this bottling is a great value. Its drinking nicely and getting the complexity you migh expect from this blockbuster wine. From now to next 7-9 yrs it will be in peak drinking condition. Enjoy it!

Best wine (for me) in a vertical tasting from 99-08. This was the first vintage they did not include any Merlot or Malbec; and the last vintage before Constellation bought Mondavi in Nov 2004. Nose like fresh pressed blackcurrant juice with a dusting of cocoa and vanilla at first, deepened into crushed blackberries and cassis with a hint of thyme. Palate is just gorgeous - pure black fruits, flavors still primary but everything in perfect balance, polished tannins, expansive and powerful, long and promising. Puts many more expensive Napa Cabs to shame.

You can not tell this reserve comes from such a massive operation. Tastes like a quality Napa garagiste product. Excellent.
