($70; 15.2% alcohol) Clearer light yellow color. Dee p aromas of apricot, citrus skin, nutmeg and crushed stone. Juicy, stony and firmly built, if youthfully tight. Very pure, vibrant, precise flavors of minerals and candied lime and lemon. Finishes extremely dry and minerally, with terrific grip and some youthful austerity. Some of the best blocks of this vineyard went into the Point Rouge bottling in 2003.

The spectacular Chardonnay La Carriere is becoming one of my favorite California Chardonnays as it tastes like a Corton-Charlemagne on steroids. The 2003 boasts aromas of crushed rock, quince, lemon butter, and orange marmalade, followed by a full-bodied, powerful yet extraordinarily elegant wine with an amazing finish. It should drink well for 4-5 years.

This wine offered perhaps the most singular, distinctive aromatic display that I?d ever experienced in young Chardonnay. Exotically perfumed and flamboyantly expressive in its dazzling array of white flowers, hazelnuts, mulled spices, baked apples, honeyed figs and rice pudding notes. This is an exceptionally unique wine that has tremendous character, depth, length and intensity of flavor that isn'toften achieved in this varietal
