The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential.

A sturdy, chewy Aglianico, with bright berry fruit, mingled with floral, mineral and sweet tobacco notes. Medium- to full-bodied, with an intense bead of fruit, firm young tannins and a long, ultraclean mineral finish. Slightly less opulent than years past but excellent. Needs time.

Was certainly the wine of the day - opened it up first but drank it last...unfortunately when we were all starting to get full (and drunk) but this had the most in terms of complexity, showing soil and nicely appointed tannins. Had this leathery, sunbaked element to it that evoked the slopes of Etna (or at least So. Italy). This could have benefited from a long decant but you work with what you have, there was still such length to this and very enjoyable. Nearly opaque in color and extremely rich. There's some left (though its been a week) so maybe we'll see what's happened. Great wine, I know what Thomasses was getting at with his review.

Wasn't much of a fan of this wine when I first tried it a few years ago. Time can do wonders. This was fantastic the second time around. Buy it up if you can. Should last for quite a while longer.

Very dark and closed. Opens to anise, dark very dry fruit and very earthy silt and talc.

Ruby red rim to blood core. Nose of damson plums, black raspberry, blackberry, smoke, graphite, old oak, cocoa, fennel. Full bodied, with high tannins...very dry, while maintaining a plump ripe fruit aspect. Ripe black fruit, pit fruit, plums, beef blood, medium-minus acidity, beef blood, ripe, sexy, but not out of proportion fruit, caramel oak, espresso, sangria. Still quite backwards for '03 Campania. Chalky tannic finish--really strips the enamel off the teeth. 2010-2020.
