($42) Ruby-red. Inky, dense aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, fruitcake and molasses. Thick and sweet but also tangy, with a strong note of tamarind providing a bright accent to the lush dark fruit tones. Rich, powerful, deep and very long on the finish, which is exotic in its sweetness but given vibrancy by suave acidity. Wild stuff.

A blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon (26-year-old vines) and 70% Mourvedre (61-year-old vines), the 2003 Clio spent 26 months in French and American oak. Its deep purple color is accompanied by classic aromas of creme de cassis intermixed with licorice, espresso roast, chocolate, and toasty oak. Its broad, intensely flavored, super-opulent personality offers up great fruit, plenty of glycerin, and a heady, long finish. Approachable now, it should be at its best in 2-5 years, and drink well for 10-15.

This big red is expressive, with vibrant currant, chocolate, orange peel and toasted walnut flavors and a firm tannic foundation. Exotic and alluring. Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon. 1,125 cases made.

Wow! Drinking perfectly now. Medium ruby color, deep fruity nose, and wonderful notes of raspberry and blackberry at first taste. The finish is a little stronger, perhaps a little tarry, but the combination is amazing. Lacks the finesse of a first growth, but I don't care!

This is aging beautifully...nice cassis and licorice notes...caramel too on the nose. Sweet tannins and a silky mouthfeel. Best bottle yet.
