The nose here is a notch up in aromatic elegance with exceptionally pure and spicy, limestone-infused red pinot fruit aromas that lead to detailed, almost racy moderately full and sweet flavors that display an underlying emphasis on an almost pungent minerality. This is a ripe but still classically styled Latricières with stunning persistence. This will age for a long time.

Intricate aromas of chocolate, spices, and sweet black fruits are found in the nose of the medium to full-bodied 2003 Latricieres-Chambertin. A highly concentrated, backward wine, it offers a firm personality crammed with blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries. "We made no concessions in the winemaking process," said Lardiere as he poured this behemoth, alluding to the fact that so many other Burgundians had so feared the vintage that they'd by-passed macerations, pump-overs, and punch-downs (pigeages). A bold, muscular effort, this wine will require patience.
