(from a .205 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines that was acquired in 1991 from the famed Marion estate) Extremely spicy with an elegant, classy and superbly complex nose of earth, very ripe fruit and a panoply of smoke, herbs and animale notes all wrapped in discreet toasty oak that highlights impressively intense, sweet and powerful flavors that are mouth coating, stylish and extremely pure. There is a really lovely sense of harmony and overall balance here and this should age well too. Solid if not sensational quality.

($250) Bright ruby-red. Redcurrant, cherry, rose petal and graphite aromas lifted by spicy oak. Pure and perfumed in the mouth, with real focus to the juicy flavors. But there's also a very strong oak spice component, and the wood seems to harden the wine on the back end. Finishes with slightly drying tannins and a suggestion of menthol.

Fashioned from 100-year old vines and aged entirely in new oak, the stupendous 2003 Chambertin-Clos de Beze has extraordinary aromatic depth. Its licorice and dark cherry scents lead to a medium to full-bodied personality that seamlessly combines massive power with graceful elegance. Pure, fleshy, and profound, it is packed with chocolate drenched in red and black cherries.

Light ruby red in color. An amazing bouquet of minerals, cherry, light spices, licorice with a flowery scent to it. On the palate it developed into a powerful but elegant blend. It had great fruit, some acidity, and lots of power. The finish did not seem to end.
