Reviews For This Wine

As always, the wine is beautifully concentrated. The ripe black cherry, blueberry, and cassis aromas in the nose are accompanied by hints of aromatic bark, espresso, and dark chocolate. Over a period of 45 to 60 minutes the nose continues to blossom. On the palate, the velvet-like texture is backed by excellent structure. Previous vintages have been supple and lush on the palate; here I find a dimension of elegance. The flavors are of crushed cranberry, black cherry, and cassis. The finish is smooth and focused, with hints of violet and chocolate, and some well focused acidity.

Site Blog: Vinotrip Alcohol up front the blew off after a few hours of sitting around. Gave way to licorice and cassis on the nose. On the palette you're getting a big ol' Napa Cab experience. Not a fruit bomb, but some big, lush, crushed red fruit. Yum. Finish thins out but then lingers in your mouth. Whole thing needs time. If you're opening one now, be prepared to drink it over a few hours.

About This Producer

Beginning with the 2000 vintage, Lisa Drinkward and Francoise Peschon, friends and mothers, began creating what was soon to become a major classic in the annals of Napa Valley startups. Both partners came in with excellent credentials - Drinkward, viticulturist at Behrens & Hitchcock (now known as Erna Schein), and Peschon, winemaker at Araujo (she recently transitioned to a consultant position there). Sourcing their fruit from small family-owned vineyards in Calistoga and producing no more than 500 cases, the pair dispels the myth that you need a sophisticated marketing plan and a fancy tasting room to compete in Napa Valley. If anything, their model is emulated more and more. Critics have been following it for a few years and there never seems to be enough to go around.
