($35) Deep ruby-red. Expressive aromas of black cherry, wild red berries, bitter chocolate, cardamom and sweet herbs. Bright, fresh and rather oaky, with racy acids giving the wine good cut. Finishes with a firm tannic spine and a repeating note of wild berries. Boasts good persistence but comes across as tougher today than the Sonoma County bottling. This needs 18 to 24 months of additional bottle aging.

Lots to admire in this smooth, broad-flavored red, with a tasty core of plum and raspberry, touches of cherry and spice, finishing with a stewed plum aftertaste. Lively acidity gives it excellent structure and a long finish. 1,895 cases made.
