My favorite of this trio of elegant, stylish Cabernet Sauvignons made by Heidi Barrett for owner Dr. Madaiah Revana, is the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of sweet cedar, smoky creme de cassis, black cherry, and a hint of licorice. Silky textured, medium to full-bodied, opulent, superbly balanced, and already showing impressive complexity, it should drink well for 10-12 years.

Sleek and well-proportioned, offering ripe currant and blackberry, mineral and tobacco flavors. Gains depth and traction, as firm ripe tannins give this a chewy, cedary aftertaste.

The nose is chock full of roasted black fruits, anise and mineral. Slight hints of beeswax enhance the silky, exotic impression on the nose with an ultra-smooth mouth feel of concentrated blackberry, cassis, and a long, sweet finish complemented by excellent acidity. (the bottle had been open for about 2 hours at this point)

12-17-10 my discussion with Natahlie at Winery: This wine was recently in tasting at the French Laundry and it was reported to be excellent. The 2002 was great year and is sold out. 2007 Cab at Revana is a 97 pt rated wine and costs upwards of $194.00. Natalie said will be great in next 3-5 years,

WOW, great wine! Smooth with earth tones. The only con is that it had an interesting smell, not bad just different.

I tasted this wine the day after it was bottled. A much more powerful and attractive offering than the 2001 - an improvement more than one would expect just from the young vineyard aging another year. I have not found their total production numbers yet (they are not listed in Revan's marketing materials and the cynic in me thinks the omission was intentional) but it would not be at all surprising to see that the yields were much lower in 2002 compared to 2001. Darkly colored with thick slow moving moderately pigmented legs. Dark sweet cherry, vanilla, mint, espresso, watermelon, a little chalk, and baker?s unsweetened chocolate aromas. Thickly concentrated with plenty of sweet fruit and smooth (but substantial ? supposedly this wine was raised only in 40% new French oak) oak. Acidity is barely acceptable and the wine lacks structure. Regardless, many people will be charmed by its open, lush, and wanton nature. Not a wine to ponder but to drink with gusto. Drink now to 2010 (Based on Revan's first two offerings, it appears that HPB is not seeking to make a vin de garde style. I would not lay either the 01 or 02 down for long).
