(the blend is based on 60% cabernet sauvignon) Good saturated medium ruby. Very pure, ripe, floral aromas of black cherry, raspberry, cassis and spices. Juicy, spicy and layered, with strong but well-integrated acidity giving the wine lovely early balance and intensifying its flavors. Broadens out impressively on the back half without losing its shape. Highly promising.

Deep ruby/purple-tinged, this vintage, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, is medium-bodied, elegantly-styled with surprisingly sweet tannin, some notes of herbs, plums, black cherries, and currants, a sweet, ripe attack, and a straightforward finish without the power and depth of the finest vintages.

Fabulous aromas of crushed berries, with cassis and blueberries and hints of spice. Full-bodied and very rich, with a wonderful tannin structure. Long and exotic.

After about 4 hours in the decanter, this began to open up. It is very recognizable as Calon, but has some good sweetish red/plum fruit alongside the signature minerality, brushiness, and ample acidity. The last few bottles I opened were way too young & tannic, and the fruit was in hiding. It's a relief to see the fruit beginning to re-emerge now and make this enjoyable. In the long run, I wonder if the fruit will outlast the tannins. But that's a question for 2020 or so!
