($56) Full ruby. Wild aromas of roasted red berries, game, smoke and roasted herbs. Supersweet, dense and lush, with a strong raspberry flavor. Impressively thick, pliant wine with enough balancing acidity to retain freshness. Finishes very long and sweet, with suave tannins.

There are 1,400 six-packs of the 2002 Syrah Reva Vineyard Estate. Tasted just after bottling, it was performing spectacularly well. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by a classic bouquet of creme de cassis, blackberries, and touches of new oak, tar, and sweet leather. It is a spectacular, dense, opulent, full-bodied effort with good minerality as well as structure. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
