The once strong wood has largely if not completely been absorbed and frames captivating but reserved aromas of game, earth and cassis that merge seamlessly into sweet, rich, powerful and very long full-bodied flavors of real size and weight. This is punchy but not at all rustic or hard. In short, this is a terrific effort with exceptionally good complexity and a really lovely inner mouth sweetness plus it's built to age.

($94) Deep red. Noble, soil-inflected aromas of cherry, minerals and licorice; Vibrant, fine-grained flavors of red fruits, stone and licorice. Lovely ripe acids give this wine enticing inner-mouth aromatic character. Wears its 100% new oak gracefully. Finishes long and perfumed, with very fine tannins.

Very clear colour. Explosive floral fragrances. Still very primary. Very smooth, silky tannins. Great balance with mouth-filling sweetness. Very deep, complex flavors of black fruits. Explosive mid-palate intensity and great persistence. Probably just arriving at its peak, as this wine was still closed and hard two years ago. An excellent Corton.

About This Producer

The domaine was "officially" founded in 1999 when the Boisset family's 91 acres were united under one name. Their original vineyard holding, Les Evocelles, was purchased in 1964 by Jean-Claude Boisset. The family's 91 acres are in 30 appellations in the Cote d'Or, with the latest purchase being the 24-acre premier cru Blanc de Vougeot Monopole. Other vineyards of note include Bonnes Mares, Corton Charlemagne, and Clos de Vougeot. Pascal Marchand is the winemaker, and the purity of the Burgundian terroir is due to his diligence at preserving the natural farming and biodynamic techniques of generations past.
