($62) Pungent aromas of raw berries and eucalyptus, with a hint of dill pickle. Juicy, minty and bright, with a supple texture and good weight. Less green in the mouth, but still hints at dill. A rather idiosyncratic cabernet, finishing with sweet tannins and good persistence.

Surprisingly vibrant for a 2002 with more prominent acidity than most Napa wines. It had some mature flavors but the wine still seemed young. It was balanced and complex with very good fruit. It needed about an hour to really open up. I think this will go for many more years. It must have been outright tart on release which explains the WS score.

Site Blog: The Wine Forum Plums and chocolate, currants add more fruit to the fray. Great tannin structure, fine and full length, the finish carries on because of the tannins, an exceptional steak wine. (0 views)

About This Producer

Former Beringer Executive Tor Kenward launched his brand in the early 2000s and soon tapped Jeff Ames, the German-born, Memphis-raised protege of Thomas Brown to be his winemaker. Concentrating on red Rhone varieties (bottled under his Rock label) as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay (under TOR) from single vineyard sites, the wines have swiftly gained critically high acclaim. Production for any one wine rarely exceeds 200 cases.
