A considerable step up in weight, depth and intensity with a richly detailed, expressive nose and impressively pure and harmonious flavors that offer superb clarity of expression. Like the Chambolle villages, this is not especially dense but this is classical Burgundy lover's dream with linearity, purity, harmony and simply knock out delineation plus a subtle complexity that is finesse personified. Consistent notes.

(from young Musigny vines) Medium red. Explosive, perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry and mocha, with a briary nuance. Wonderfully round on entry, then a bit unforthcoming in the middle palate. But offers rare sweet for the vintage, along with superb clarity of raspberry and mineral flavor. Finishes impressively long and subtle, with very fine tannins. Delicious wine, and a relative value in the context of these 2001s.

Sweet, candied black cherries burst from the glass of the medium to dark ruby-colored 2001 Chambolle-Musigny. Supple, sexy, and lush, it bastes the palate with sensual waves of blueberries, wild raspberries, and dark cherries. Plump, yet deep and lively, this is an outstanding wine jam-packed with fruit that lingers throughout its impressively long finish.
