Not an easy style of wine - and especially difficult to taste following the Hayne zinfandel.

A new offering, the 2001 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard (14% alcohol) possesses an evolved nose of sweet blackberry liqueur intermixed with spice and sweet oak. Surprisingly, the palate is closed, and the finish hard and tannic. While this effort does not appear to have the potential of its siblings, there is still a lot to it. Perhaps I caught it on a closed day.
