($140-$160) Dark ruby-red. Deep, inviting aromas of sappy berry liqueur and truffle. Lush, silky and sweet, with expressive flavors of blackberry, currant, truffle and chocolate nicely framed by harmonious acidity. The most classically Pomerol of these three vintages, but also has solid underlying structure. The broad tannins spread out to coat the palate on the suave, subtly gripping finish.

Well integrated, very pleasurable drinking now, porbably at its plateau and will remain there for another 2-3 years. Blue and red berries aromas with a touch of savouriness thrown in. Liked it a lot. Try with rare lamb. Very underrated vintage for this wine IMO.

While not up to the quality level of the stratospheric 2000, the deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 l'Evangile is a beauty. Revealing notes of beef blood, black fruits, and white flowers, it is medium-bodied and lush with sweet tannin, a pliant, opulent texture, and a long, rich finish revealing hints of forest floor, truffles, and licorice.

Beautiful aromas of chocolate, blackberry and light cappuccino follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long finish. Delicious already but will be much better in a few years. Yummy wine.

Open and airy nose with leather, clay, mint, and dried plum and cherry nuances. Nice viscosity provides and excellent plush mouthfeel for the drinker. Good length and acids. Quite forward in character. A very impressive 2001 that is closer in quality to the 2000 than I ever expected.
