A very backward but extremely promising wine that finishes with broad, dusty, fine tannins and excellent length. Wait five years on the Napa cab, but give this at least seven or eight. An impressive return to form for Dunn following the cool, late harvests of 1998 through 2000, which were particularly tough on Howell Mountain

More seriously endowed, powerful and still broodingly backward, but loaded with upside potential, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain reveals gorgeous blueberry liqueur, crushed rock and blackberry liqueur characteristics. This big, mountain-styled 2001 exhibits lots of structure, tannin, density and powerful flavors. Still youthful, vibrant and masculine, it needs 4-5 more years of cellaring and should last for 25-30+ years thereafter.

Hard and chewy, with a strong dose of cedary oak, wild berry, blackberry and mineral flavors. Dense and concentrated, it is supported by firm, chewy tannins, ending with a minerally quality and good length. 2,200 cases made.
