The Calbello 2001 Brunello di Montalcino, from Costanti's second property, presents a less polished style of Brunello. It offers notes of herbs, cherries, minerals and earthiness on a medium-bodied, structured frame, with building, somewhat coarse tannins. Bottle age may assist somewhat in smoothing out some of the angular quality that is present today, but my impression is that this powerful Brunello will always have a rough-around-the-edges style.
