($70) Full, deep ruby-red. Very sexy, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, violet, mint, spices and tobacco. Broad, dry and suave; at once velvety and light on its feet. Bordeaux-like in its texture and inner-mouth verve. Coats the entire palate with flavor. Finishes very long and sweet, with a flavor of melted chocolate. A retaste of a bottle I sampled last year just after it was bottled.

Deep blackberry color. Nose deep fruit with vanillan oak. Hint of fresh earth. Body was opulent with rich, ripe fruit. Smooth with tannins. Just layer after layer of tastes. Finish was very long with black cherry and vanilla notes.

Smooth, luscious feel in the mouth, followed by an abundance of earth flavors. Wonderful example of merlot in a rich style.

Medium to dark black cherry red with a few thin legs showing moderate coloration. A fairly full nose of earth, heat, plum, pine needles, and chocolate. More chocolate in the mouth to go along with rough tannin. A bit flat and frankly this wine seriously lacks fruit. A huge disappointment for any vintage with Helen Turley at the helm but especially so in 2001. A Helen Turley failure.

About This Producer

Located in the western hills of Yountville, in the foothills of the Mayacamas range, Blankiet shares a founding date with Arietta. In 1996, the husband and wife team of Claude and Katherine Blankiet, with the aid of viticulturist David Abreu, and winemaker Helen Turley, created a stable of wines that validate the extraordinary terroir of their 16 acres of vineyards. The first eight vintages were made by Turley, but now the winemaking team consists of consulting oenologist Michel Rolland and winemaker Martha McClellan-Levy.
