($80) Full ruby-red. Big, rich, perfumed aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, violet, menthol, coffee and loam. Rich and mellow but vinous, with fruit-driven flavors of currant, blueberry and boysenberry. Nicely full in the middle but slightly lean on the back end, with a bit of acidity showing. "In 2000 we benefitted by being on the valley floor, with lighter soils," noted winemaker Rosemary Cakebread.

Savoury, meat extract complete and well integrated. Qute intense and voluptuous. Very seductive yet savoury and interesting. Racy, velvety and lovely and harmonious. Opulent. Quite sweet on the finish. A bit leaner than F. (LM)

One of the most successful wines for the vintage, Spottswoode's 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is more forward and lighter than either of its two younger siblings. However, it is impeccably balanced and seamless, revealing the estate's classic blueberry, black currant, mineral, and floral characteristics in its moderately intense aromatics. Pure, rich, and well-proportioned, this is a top-flight success in an irregular vintage. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years.
