($100; 90% cabernet; the '99 was a 50/50 blend of cabernet and merlot) Deep, bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, cassis, black raspberry, minerals, tar, dark chocolate and smoke. Densely packed wine with plum, currant and tobacco flavors complemented but not overwhelmed by sweet oak tones. Boasts sound acidity and a restrained sweetness. Finishes with excellent persistence and big, tongue-dusting, granular tannins that coat the front teeth. Like Bob Foley's wines at Pride Family Vineyards, this is uncommonly strong in the context of the 2000 vintage.

Potentially the "Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage," Foley's 2000 Claret (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) is an amazing effort for this irregular vintage. It possesses a saturated black/purple color, great elegance and richness as well as amazing precision and extraordinary purity. Aromas of smoke, licorice, incense, black currant liqueur, and spice box are followed by a full-bodied, satiny smooth wine with a 45+ second finish. This incredible 2000 is a tribute to Bob Foley's talents.
