Wine Spectator Author: James Laube

Firm and structured, with spicy currant, herb, dill and berry, picking up a cedary lead pencil edge. Finishes with a firm, rich core of flavors and tight tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 22,500 cases made.

Here is the best Opus since the sexy 1998. As soon as it hits the glass, it exudes marvelous color. Aromas of black fruits abound in the nose surrounded by oak perfume. Attractive, smooth and approachable on the palate, with lots of bright black fruit, good structure.

Lots of barnyard on the nose. The wine was just okay. It could have used more time. Tannins were still too powerful.

Overall, not what you would expect from Opus One. With that said, it still showed some life with some firm tannins, and a 30 second finish. No need to hold on to for any longer.
