International Wine Cellar Author: Stephen Tanzer Issue: Issue 106

($100) Saturated black ruby to the rim. Sappy aromas of black cherry, minerals and roasted nuts. Wonderfully concentrated, very sweet, silky and suave; like an elixir of dark berries. As it opened in the glass, the superb underlying structure became obvious. Finishes with big, building, extremely fine tannins and superb length and grip. (William Grant & Sons, New York, NY)

Jancis Robinson Author: Julia Harding MW

Very subtle on the nose and not in the least spirity, slightly wild garrique edge, especially compared with Nacional 2000. Not yet expressive. Very concentrated, dense, but also elegant and subtle and harmonious. Black tie. Very very long. Coffee and chocolate at the end. Dark but not savoury. Still in its packaging. Mouthcoating richness and depth. (JH)

Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker Issue: 143

The saturated blue/purple/black-colored 2000 Vintage Port reveals a distinctive bouquet of graphite, creme de cassis liqueur, licorice, and spice. Sweet tannin, full body, and outstanding concentration provide an impressive entry on the palate. Notions of chocolate make an appearance in the long finish of this sweet, lush, precocious effort.

Wine Spectator Author: James Suckling

Very fine young Port. Fascinating aromas of crushed fruit, tar and wet earth. Turns floral. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with chewy, velvety tannins and a long finish. Grips your mouth. A balanced and caressing Noval.

For The Love of Port Author: Roy Hersh Issue: Issue 23

This was in some pretty prestigious company and on its own probably would have scored a point higher. Inky and opaque, the nose is great with espresso bean, anise and dark chocolate intertwined. This is the bigger brother of the Silval and shows class and potential for serious aging. The chewy cherry and blackberry fruit is tantalizing and although the dusty tannins are powerful, the acidity and fruit match up quite well. I’d leave bottles in the cellar for another decade before opening any but these will really show best between 2030-2040. With that said, they are pretty easy to fall in love with right now.
