($65) Bright medium ruby. Aromatic nose combines blackberry, black cherry, espresso and violet. Tightly wound, even a bit tart, owing to strong acids and rather dominant oakiness. Has less flesh to support its oak than the 2001 merlot, with the result that the tannins come across as chalkier and considerably more dominant today.

Tarry black fruits, herbs, cedar, and mulling spices are found in the nose of the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a highly structured, firm wine with flavors of cedar, brambleberries, and blackberries. Its medium to full-bodied character leads to a tannic finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years before the structure reigns in the fruit.

Rich, supple and fleshy, a lovely Cabernet that spills over with plum-scented berry and espresso flavors that linger enticingly on the rich, polished finish. The oak is present but not overwhelming. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. 2,518 cases made.

A very disappointing effort from Leonetti. Opaque blood red colored wine with a reticent nose of toasty oak (decreased in both magnitude and exotic nuances compared to past vintages), tobacco, slight mint and caramel, mocha, and diffuse fruit. Almost delicate in the mouth with above normal acidity, light tannin, and mediocre levels of fruit concentration. The wine finishes well with flint, smoke, and dusky black cherry making their presence felt at the end. Unlike most Leonettis, this wine may repay keeping in the cellar but this is a bet that I would not like to make.
