(from Les Rouges) Wonderfully elegant and intense black, spicy fruit with ripe, rich, round, spicy flavors that offer good power, flavor authority and fine length. There is a certain roundness to the tannins that seem to be more sophisticated than usual as young Echézeaux can often be somewhat rustic. An impressive wine with very good concentration and density.

($102) Medium red. Red cherry, spices, minerals, earth and a note of menthol on the nose. Fat and sweet, with subtle red fruit and menthol flavors. At once rich and quite dry, with very good concentration of fruit. Youthful, persistent finish.

The ruby-colored 2000 Echezeaux, a spicy black cherry-scented wine, is medium-bodied, lush, and broad. It displays outstanding depth of fruit, loads of bing cherries, blackberries, and cassis, as well as a plush, long finish. Drink this expressive, forward offering over the next 6-7 years.
