This too is quite ripe and densely fruited with masculine flavors and firm finishing tannins. This is lovely and fine with beautifully textured flavors and very good length. Very pretty wine with good persistence and a fine sense of minerality.

($60) Moderately saturated medium red. Musky strawberry and cherry aromas, with hints of flowers, smoke and earth. Sweet and smooth in the mouth, with a slightly roasted flavor of candied strawberry. Shows more backbone than the Chambolle villages but not more brightness. Perhaps still in bottle shock today.

The 2000 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is a lip-smackingly good wine. Ruby-colored, sporting a nose of candied red cherries, it expands on the palate to reveal an ample, well-endowed personality redolent with tangy black cherries and currants. Lively, pure, and possessing a long, flavorful finish, it is sure to deliver pleasure. Drink it over the next 6-7 years.
