($150; bottled in January of 2003) Good saturated ruby. Black raspberry, black cherry and sexy, spicy oak on the nose. Very ripe but a bit less porty than the '99, with supple, sweet flavors of dusty currant, leather and minerals. A more elegantly styled if less dense wine, but still full, broad and rich, finishing with ripe, smooth tannins.

The 2000 Melbury displays tremendously fragrant aromas of black cherries, currants, licorice, and toasty oak, medium to full body, luscious fruit on the attack, and a slight narrowing in the finish. While outstanding, unlike the profound 2001, it needs to be drunk during its first 10-12 years of life.
