($65-$95) Very good red-ruby. Exotic aromas of roasted red berries and spices. Sweet, lush, broad and impressively ripe. Flavors of black cherry, licorice and shoe polish are at once classic Pauillac and compellingly exuberant. Complicated by a lovely floral element. Finishes very long, bright and sweet. A superb vintage for this wine.

Dark and shaded ruby. Much more complex nose than any wine so far. But quite developed..? I love the minerality and lusciousness-yet-dryness on the finish. Very solid performance and a lovely wine for an extended period, I would say. Very grown up indeed.

A brilliant Forts de Latour, the 2000 boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with a vibrant nose of black currants intermixed with minerals, tobacco, and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, with loads of glycerin and fat (that nearly obscure some serious tannin), it will be drinkable between 2007-2020.

Super enticing aromas of crushed raspberries, Indian spices and hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, with a refined and tight tannin structure and a long, refreshing finish. A beauty. Second wine of Latour. Best Les Forts in years. 11,665 cases made.

Opened new case. Beautiful wine. A little thin at the rim but fruit went on for hours. Mild smoke and briar. Smooth tannins.

Lots of thick legs displaying slight coloration. Black maroon colored wine with a controlled nose of deep rich earth, anise, caramel, high toned dark berry fruits, and lead. Moderate but mouth coating tannins. Somewhat liquide but with decent length. Acid is on the high range of acceptable. Quite tight at present with simple fruit on the palate.

About This Producer

Chateau Latour is among the First Growth properties classified in the Bordeaux 1855 Classification. The estate is situated in the southern portion of Pauillac, bordering St. Julien and the Gironde estuary. Latour is considered one of the longest-lasting First Growths, reflecting its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is typically 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The fruit is grown in vineyards with notably high levels of gravel and an ideal southeastern exposure. Latour is typified by its concentrated fruit and complexity. Young vintages are forward and jammy with multiple layers of fruit. Aromas include black-currant, cherry and prune, with a dusty bouquet of mint, leather, cedar, and tobacco. Chateau Latour can age a lifetime and should not be approached for ten to twenty years. Some of the best vintages include 1949, 1959, 1961, 1982, 1990, and 2000. Chateau Latour also produces a second wine called Les Forts de Latour and a third wine labeled simply Pauillac.
