International Wine Cellar | 90

Dark red. Aromas of bitter cherry, superripe strawberry, cola, gunflint and smoked meat. Sweet, supple and intensely flavored, with very ripe red fruit flavors and plenty of extract. A lightly minty nuance contributes to the wine's brightness. A fairly large-scaled, classic California pinot, finishing with strong berry and oak flavors.

The stunning 2000 Pinot Noir River Block Vineyard (200 cases) is reminiscent of a grand cru from Burgundy's Cote de Nuits. Aromas of flowers, black cherry liqueur, raspberries, plums, and a touch of blackberries jump from the glass of this dense, deep ruby/purple-colored Pinot. Like all the 2000s, it possesses vibrant acidity, outstanding purity, a layered texture, and a firm but persuasive, fruity finish.

About This Producer

With three generations of dedication to the land, Rochioli Vineyards and Winery has earned the reputation as one of Sonoma County's finest. This family legacy began in 1938, when Joe Rochioli Sr. purchased land he had long farmed. He had the foresight to know that the soil of the Russian River Valley would one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. His son Joe Jr. embraced this vision and today craft renowned, terrior-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit.

The result has been a decades-long tradition of outstanding vintages: Silky-smooth, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs; rich, opulent Chardonnays; and tangy, food-friendly Sauvignon Blancs.
