Full ruby. Currants, coffee and roasted, nutty oak on the nose. Rich and vinous, with lovely inner-mouth perfume. Nicely sweetened by oaky torrefaction. Quite suave and subtle on the back end, with fine but firm tannins.

It will be hard for the opaque ruby/purple-colored 2000 to surpass the spectacular 1998, but it appears Grand Mayne is more and more becoming the Lynch Bages of St.-Emilion. The corpulent, fleshy, hedonistic 2000 is loaded with concentrated black fruits infused with vanilla and espresso notes. Large-scaled and delicious, it is an attention-getter, but not overdone. The oak is beautifully integrated, the acidity low, and the tannin sizeable but ripe. A blockbuster effort, this admirably pure and balanced wine will be at its finest between 2005-2018. P.S. It held up five days in bottle without any trace of oxidation.

Impressive. Very dark and deep for a red. Intense aromas of crushed blackberries, raspberries and black licorice. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. A big, thick red. A modern, exciting St.-Emilion. Try it.

An overwhelming nose of black cherries and liquorice. Very
soft and sweet with plenty of
forest fruits and plummy as
it breathed. No acidity at all, I personally like some to be present. A lovely wine, but time to drink up.

Second bottle of six, and it is terrific. Young, dark and vibrant. Earthy and blue fruit nose, poised. Full bodied, with a core of black fruit, oak well integrated. In balance and long. I am enjoying this cache of Grand Cru Classe from St Emilion. Long life ahead.

This wine usually sees 80% new French oak aging. Great color with medium thick legs showing moderate coloration. Right now, the wine only shows sweet spicy oak in the nose but there are plenty of deep dark fruits lying underneath. Cherry, berry, and cedar flavors. Quite good, but not as exciting as I expected.
