($40) Very good deep red-ruby. Roasted plum and black fruit aromas, with notes of violet, dark chocolate, smoke and game. Fat, lush and superripe; shows more of a roasted character than the 2001, but also boasts solid acidity. A huge, full-blown wine with exotic notes of roasted herbs. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and excellent length.

Tasted Dec 2008 in London.Pale ruby. Round and polished and just about ready to drink now. Lots of hedonistic pleasure - a bit like a malted milk with some animal hair in it - quite much more delicious than that sounds. Totally round and lightening up. Obviously not a great vintage, but awfully useful not to have to wait…!

Wine Advocate Author: Robert Parker Issue: 145

The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals 14.6% alcohol, and is stylistically similar to the great 1990. The 2000 is open-knit and fat, with higher levels of glycerin as well as a more corpulent style than the structured, backward 2001. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by sweet, black cherry/kirsch liqueur-like notes presented in a voluptuous, full-throttle, intense style. It is already revealing such secondary nuances as pepper, garrigue, and truffles. Chewy, full-bodied, and moderately tannic, this cuvee is accessible, but not ready to drink.

Fine and lingering red fruit aromatics followed by a beautiful harmony of freshness, intensity and length. Drinking very well now. Glad I have more

Helllloooo kirsch! Sweet cocoa ganache, cloves cinnamon, herbs de Provence and pure raspberry fruit lead the way to the essence of Elysium. The palate is svelte, suave and full of heavenly purity, coated in a cashmere frame that is all in finesse. Gains more and more sappy richness in time, bringing a pure, knee-buckling sense of heaven to the lips w/ each sip. Who needs cuvees?! Believe it or not, this will get better in time....97 points
