($24) Saturated ruby-red. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, black olive, pepper and Provencal herbs. Offers a suave texture along with rather cool flavors of black cherry, menthol and shoe polish. Finishes with even, slightly drying tannins.

This is admittedly on the backside of its life but is still very pleasing. Medium-bodied with blackberry and dried dark berry fruit. Nuances of earth, mushroom and leather. Tannins are fully absorbed leaving a smooth, soft, elegant mouthfeel. Medium length finish.

Over the hill a bit. Opened up with air. Brambly, good acidity and little tannin left. Fruit fading a bit.

About This Producer

Based in the rustic, quaint and compact village of Cairanne, Domaine Brusset (founded in 1947 by Andre Brusset) wines are the epitome of great Syrah. This 90-hectare estate produces exquisite Gigondas that are at once elegant and jam-packed with layers and textures that belie their humble origins. Andre's son Daniel and grandson Laurent follow traditional vinification methods - including some whole cluster fermentation, which extracts the maximum amount of both complexity and balanced concentration.
