($160) Good deep red. Complex, vibrant aromas of raspberry, flowers, tobacco and tar. Offers great penetrating sweetness along with wonderful lift in the mouth, with red berry flavors complicated by tobacco, mocha and underbrush. Pure, sharply focused and still youthfully unevolved. Sweeter than the 2000 Barbaresco Santo Stefano, but the Asili is even longer. Large-scaled and built to age; really transcends the vintage.

The 2000 Barolo Falletto is a burly and intense effort with much tar and licorice in its aromas and flavors. Solid and well concentrated, its muscular tannins and burly texture are characteristic of the more concentrated wines of the 2000 vintage. Authoritative and with plenty of grip, it will undoubtedly improve over the next 15 years of useful life it will doubtlessly enjoy.

Superdecadent and rich, with layers of plums, blackberries, strawberries and raw meat. Then turns floral. Full-bodied, yet fresh and lively, with a silky and caressing texture. This is not about concentration but about subtlety and complexity. Goes on and on. Best after 2008. 1,200 cases made.

Classic Barolo nose. Very elegant and deceptively full bodied. This was very well balanced with cherry, earthy mineral flavors, succulent with fine tannins and a long finish. I would say this is drinking well but by no means near fading any time soon. I've seen mixed reviews so was curious to drink this wine and I will say it is a very fine wine. It really has everything you're looking for in a fine Barolo; maybe a little less depth than the very best.

Tasted in 2006. Rather lightish on the palate, might be in a dumb stage now, but wonder where this wine is going...had with spagetti with spices and the food overwhelmed it. Serve with something less spicey.
