Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | 92

($100) Bright medium ruby. Rather Pauillac-like aromas of cassis, black cherry, violet, licorice and menthol; perfumed and pure. Juicy and tightly wound, with floral black fruit flavors. A bit closed in on itself today, but already quite aromatic in the mouth. Finishes long and juicy, with firm but fine tannins.

Teases with subtle flavor nuances wrapped in a tight, tannic, austere package, with a core of beefy, leathery currant, sage and tobacco flavors. Hard-edged tannins on the finish suggest cellaring, and perhaps with time this will be more compelling, as the finish is quite dry and earthy. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 220 cases made.

About This Producer

Located in the western hills of Yountville, in the foothills of the Mayacamas range, Blankiet shares a founding date with Arietta. In 1996, the husband and wife team of Claude and Katherine Blankiet, with the aid of viticulturist David Abreu, and winemaker Helen Turley, created a stable of wines that validate the extraordinary terroir of their 16 acres of vineyards. The first eight vintages were made by Turley, but now the winemaking team consists of consulting oenologist Michel Rolland and winemaker Martha McClellan-Levy.
