Good full ruby-red. Plum, tar, cedar and a hint of herbaceousness on the nose. Plummy and moderately dense, with warm notes of tar and tobacco. Finishes with less ripe tannins that show a hint of dryness.

Licorice, creme de cassis, and toasty oak are typical of this classic Pauillac. It is full-bodied, with excellent sweetness, grip, structure, and more tannin than many 1999s possess. This structured, muscular effort will require patience.

After 2 hour decant, slightly closed nose of dark fruit and oak. Same on the palate with a slightly green finish. Began to improve after three hours and opened further, offering notes of chocolate and dark fruit. Expected more.
